GPS Classes and Services

     

We offer several classes for GPS,  Map and Compass, and Survival training.  Outdoor Quest is prepared to provide traditional classroom training or remotely on site at your location.  Our desire is to tailor the class to your group's needs.  We have an extensive background in Garmin and Magellan global positioning systems.

GPS Class

The basic GPS class is a three to six hour course.   This class can be tailored to your group's requirements.  The basic concepts of GPS operations and setup, marking waypoints and "Go To" functions are covered.  This is a hands on, button pushing class that takes the time to go outside and use the GPS during practical exercises.  We specialize is classes for hikers, backpackers and hunters.  This is a fun class and perfect to get ready to geochache.  Maximum class size of 12 is recommended.

Map and Compass Class An introductory class to back country navigation with Map and Compass.  This six hour class introduces the student to the base plate compass and USGS topographic mapping.

Mapping Software For MyTopo's Terrain Navigator software owners.   Students will learn the basic operating features of mapping software using  Terrain Navigator navigation software.  The student will begin by learning  the fundamentals of USGS topographic maps.  In this two to three hour class students will learn how to open, find and print maps, create and download waypoints.   The bulk of the presentation will be the operation of the software and how it compliments an individual’s outdoor experience.

Wilderness Survival Class A 3-6 hour introductory class on wilderness survival and travel preparation tailored to your needs.  Students will review the basics of travel planning, equipment, clothing selection and the skills you need in an emergency situation.   We want you to stay safe.   This class provides you with the planning elements  you need consider in advance of your wilderness journey.  This class does not teach primitive skills (such as starting a fire with flint and steel).  This class focuses on survival skills using modern equipment and technology.
